En el año 2008 dos estudiantes de máster crearon una aplicación que te permite aprender idiomas en las redes sociales. El austríaco Bernhard Niesner y el suizo Adrian Hilti se conocieron en 2007 en el MBA del Instituto de Empresa de Madrid y diseñaron “Busuu.com” como proyecto de fin de máster.
Ahora su aplicación tiene 50 millones de usuarios en más de 200 países en los que puedes aprender inglés, español, alemán, italiano, francés, portugués, ruso, árabe, polaco, turco, mandarín, japonés y busuu.
Escogieron este nombre, “busuu”, para su web porque es un idioma africano en vías de extinción hablado por 8 personas en todo el mundo.
Esta plataforma funciona de forma similar a la red social Facebook: te registras, envías solicitudes de amistad, creas grupos para intercambiar material en otros idiomas como corrección de textos o traducciones. También puedes hablar simplemente con nativos de la lengua que quieras practicar.
“Las ventajas de aprender online son infinitas: está disponible las 24 horas y se puede usar desde casa o desde el autobús. No hay horario de apertura” afirma Niesner. Se fomenta el aprendizaje colaborativo.
La Web registra 40.000 usuarios al día y 30.000 textos se corrigen diariamente por usuarios nativos de todo el mundo. “Sucede como con Wikipedia, hay personas que solo por pasión han corregido cientos de textos”.
Según la encuesta realizada por los creadores en España, una persona gasta una media de 1000 € en su vida para aprender una idioma. Su idea es aprender de forma gratuita, sólo hay que disponer de tiempo y ganas.
La aplicación también puede descargarse en Android y Apple y se puede acceder a lecciones interactivas gratuitas, exámenes o test de comprensión lectora que abarcan desde el nivel A1 hasta el B2 (según el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas).
Además cuenta con un servicio Premium para los más empollones, en los que puedes acceder a temas específicos de gramática, vocabulario, vídeos y a un software de inteligencia artificial que detecta errores y puntos débiles del usuario proponiendo ejercicios para corregirlos.
Pero no siempre la red se usa para lo que se pretende, en algunas ocasiones los usuarios la utilizan para ligar por lo que hay que eliminar de la lista a los que no sienten interés en corregir tu forma de hablar.
